If you wish to travel to Ethiopia for tourism and/or a visit, you will require a tourist visa. The only exceptions are nationals from Djibouti and Kenya.
Nationals of the following countries may apply for a tourist visa on arrival at Bole International Airport: All African countries, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Democratic people’s Republic of Korea (Northern Korea), Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea (South Korea), the Russian Federation, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.
Online (e-Visa) From 1 June 2018, all international visitors to Ethiopia can apply for their tourist visas (e-Visa) online.
The e-Visa is processed and issued online by the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs, where applicants can securely apply and pay for their entry visa. The official visa website of the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs is www.evisa.gov.et.
Once the online application is approved, applicants will receive an approval letter sent directly to your email address authorizing them to travel to Ethiopia and they will get their passport stamped with the visa upon arrival in Addis Ababa.
Any other websites purporting to offer online visa services to Ethiopia are fraudulent. The Government of Ethiopia will not be liable for any payments made nor for any inconvenience caused to applicants submitting their applications via these websites.
Only single-entry Tourist visas can be issued online. For multiple entry visas, please apply at the Embassy.
When choosing the length of visa, please be aware that the visas are valid from the date of issue and not the date of entry into Ethiopia. It is not possible to post-date visas, so please give careful consideration which length of visa will be suitable for your stay.
As your visa is valid from the date it is processed at the Embassy, you must take the following into account:
• The time it takes to process your visa application
• If applying by post or courier, please allow enough time for postage
• The number of days in advance of your travel that you have applied
If you wish to stay in Ethiopia for a longer period than that which has been indicated in your visa, you are required to apply for an extension at the Main Department for Immigration Office in Addis Ababa.
