PM Hailemariam calls for improved energy supplies in Africa at a WEF roundtable
Prime Minister Hailemariam, speaking at a roundtable at the World Economic Forum at Davos, urged African countries to improve their energy supply for effective implementation of the fourth industrial revolution. The Prime Minister noted that energy was a key factor for mastering the fourth industrial revolution. Despite Ethiopia's significant efforts towards energy development, he said, the country's power supply was still far below demand. This hindered technological advancement. Prime Minister Hailemariam stressed the need for technology transformation and leadership skills to tackle the constraints which Africa is still facing. In spite of being home to nine of the 15 countries with emerging economies, over 600 million people in the continent do not have access to electricity. The President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, also emphasized the need to enhance electricity coverage in the continent to realize the fourth industrial revolution and make use of it.nHe emphasized that the Bank would support initiatives towards boosting electricity coverage in the continent, he added.
