Farewell program for Ethiopian Ebola response mission to West Africa

A farewell program for volunteers for Ethiopian Ebola response mission to West Africa was held on December 15. The program was attended by senior government officials, representatives of the African Union, Ambassadors and invited guests. The Ebola response mission is dispatched to West African Ebola hit countries with the objective of maintaining solidarity and cooperation between Ethiopia and African countries as part of Ethiopia’s long-standing commitments to African affairs. In his opening remark Health Minister Dr. Kesete-Berhan Admassu expressed his appreciation for the volunteers for accepting the call of the government of Ethiopia and the African Union.  He noted that Ethiopia has always been firm in cooperating in solving the problems of Africa and with this special mission, the country is now the largest volunteer contributing African country in the fight against the deadly disease in West African countries. Ha stated that the health volunteers are similar to the Ethiopian Peacekeepers deployed to other African countries. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dewano Kedir praised the health professionals for their readiness to help the West African countries and noted that it shows a strong sign of African Solidarity. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between African Union and the Ethiopian government for future cooperation.  Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union appreciated Ethiopi’s unwavering stand for Africa by being at the forefront in various African matters. Ambassador of Liberia to Ethiopia Ms. Vivienne TitiWreh also praised the health volunteers for keeping the Ethiopian flag high in West African, in the African Union and the Whole of Africa. H. E Deputy Prime Minister Demeke, noted Ethiopia’s efforts to stand for African causes in various issues. He said Ethiopia supports to counter Ebola outbreak since its oubreak and affirm that Ethiopia will continue to stand by African’s as it is shown in the health mission to West African countries.
