#Ethiopia and #Brazil hold Second Political Consultation
Ethiopia and Brazil conducted the Second political consultation virtually on Friday (21 March 2021).
The consultation was led by H.E. Ambassador Redwan Hussien, State-Minister of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and H.E. Ambassador Kenneth Nobrega, Undersecretary for Middle-East, Europe and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
Discussions focused on 70 years of friendship, Ethiopia-Brazil Strategic partnership, exchange of information on domestic political developments, and cooperation in regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Ambassador Redwan Hussien updated the undersecretary on recent developments both in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa region, the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and upcoming elections in Ethiopia.
The Ambassador particularly emphasized on Ethiopia’s commitment to peaceful resolution of the border dispute with Sudan as well as the need to enhance humanitarian relief efforts that the government is undertaking in the Tigray region.
Ambassador Redwan noted Ethiopia’s keenness to enhance bilateral ties with Brazil in a number of areas including agriculture and infrastructure development.
On his part, Ambassador Kenneth explained the potentials in further strengthening the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of economic and security matters. Ambassador Kenneth has also noted on the need to work on enhancing the trade and investment flow between the two countries and Brazil’s commitment in this regard.
The need to further strengthen bilateral technical cooperation particularly in the areas of enhancing cotton production, management of acidic soils, forest management, and enhancing coffee production have been raised during discussions. Bilateral agreements between #Ethiopia & #Brazil as well as possible areas of cooperation in multilateral forums have also been discussed.
Both parties agreed to work collaboratively going forward to further enhance the trade, investment and tourism flow between Ethiopia and Brazil.
